Don’t Search for a House. Search for the Life You Want to Live.
Somewhere along the way, buying a home became about numbers.
Three bedrooms.
Two bathrooms.
2,100 square feet.
A two-car garage.
Open concept.
Quartz countertops.
Don’t get me wrong—those things matter.
But after helping families buy and sell homes, I’ve learned something important. Almost no one remembers why they chose the granite countertops.
They remember everything else.
They remember the Christmas morning their children raced down the stairs. The kitchen where they taught their daughter how to make her grandmother’s favorite recipe. The backyard where birthdays were celebrated. The front porch where they watched thunderstorms roll across the mountains. The dock where the grandchildren caught their first fish. The dining room where difficult conversations happened... and life’s biggest celebrations too.
A house is made of walls and windows.
A home is made of moments.
That’s why I believe people shouldn’t start by searching for a house. They should start by searching for the life they want to live.
Close Your Eyes for a Moment...
Imagine it’s Saturday morning. Where are you?
Are you sitting on a dock watching the sun rise over Chickamauga Lake while the water is perfectly still? Or are you wrapped in a blanket on a mountain porch with nothing but birds singing and layers of blue ridges stretching into the distance?
Maybe you’re walking to the Chattanooga Market with a coffee in your hand. Maybe you’re browsing antique shops in Chickamauga before grabbing lunch at a locally owned café. Maybe you’re watching your kids ride bicycles through a quiet neighborhood where everyone waves as they pass. Or maybe you’re sitting on ten peaceful acres listening to nothing but the wind through the trees.
None of these dreams are better than the others. They’re simply different. And that’s exactly why choosing a home is so personal.
The Questions That Matter Most
Instead of asking, “How many bedrooms do I need?”
Try asking: How do I want my mornings to feel?
Instead of asking, “How much square footage should we buy?”
Ask: What memories do I want to make here?
Instead of asking, “What’s the resale value?”
Ask: Will this place become part of my family’s story?
Because someday, your children probably won’t remember whether the countertops were granite or quartz. But they’ll remember jumping off the dock. Building snowmen in the backyard. Walking to the neighborhood ice cream shop. Watching fireworks from the front porch. Helping decorate the Christmas tree in the family room.
The house simply became the backdrop. Life became the story.
Why I Love This Area
One of the reasons I love serving Chattanooga and Northwest Georgia is because there isn’t just one lifestyle here.
You can spend Saturday on Chickamauga Lake and Sunday hiking Lookout Mountain. You can live downtown and walk to restaurants, or own acreage where your closest neighbors are deer and wild turkey.
You can choose a historic home in Chickamauga where Christmas feels like a Hallmark movie, a waterfront retreat in Harrison, a mountain escape on Signal Mountain, or a quiet country property outside Ringgold.
There isn’t a “best” place to live. There’s only the place that fits your life.
My Purpose
When I named my business Homes With Purpose, it wasn’t because I thought every house needed a purpose. It was because I believe every move has one.
Sometimes it’s giving your children room to grow. Sometimes it’s downsizing after they’ve left home. Sometimes it’s finding peace after a difficult season. Sometimes it’s finally buying the lake house you’ve dreamed about for years. Sometimes it’s simply finding a place that feels like home.
Every chapter deserves a home that supports it. That’s the purpose.
More Than a Transaction
Real estate isn’t really about contracts. It’s about new beginnings. It’s about handing someone a set of keys and knowing they’re about to create memories they’ll carry for the rest of their lives.
Years from now, you probably won’t remember your interest rate. You probably won’t remember what color the walls were when you moved in. But you’ll remember the feeling of unlocking the front door for the first time. You’ll remember where everyone stood when you took that first family photo. You’ll remember the life you built there.
And that’s what matters.
So Before You Search...
Before you filter homes by bedrooms, bathrooms, price, or square footage... take a moment to dream a little.
Picture your mornings. Imagine your weekends. Think about the traditions you want to create. The people you hope will gather around your table. The sunsets you want to watch. The porch where you’ll drink your coffee. The neighborhood where your children will ride their bikes. The quiet evenings you’ve been craving.
Don’t just search for a house.
Search for the life you want to live.
The right home is simply where that life begins.
