More Than a Place to Live: Festivals, Farmers Markets & Live Music Around Chattanooga and North Georgia

Donnella Ianziti October 19, 2026 6 min read

One of my favorite things about living in the Chattanooga area is that there’s almost always something happening. From small-town festivals and farmers markets to outdoor concerts, handmade gifts, and local food, there are so many ways to get out, explore, and enjoy the community.

If you’re thinking about moving to Chattanooga or Northwest Georgia, these experiences are part of what makes this area special. You’re not just choosing a house. You’re choosing the places you’ll visit on weekends, the traditions you’ll look forward to each year, and the communities where you’ll make memories.

And one upcoming event brings all of that together: Chilimauga in Chickamauga, Georgia!

Chilimauga: A Community Event in Chickamauga, Georgia

Mark your calendar for Saturday, November 7, 2026, when downtown Chickamauga hosts Chilimauga, a community chili cook-off and street fair benefiting the Gordon Lee Marching Trojan Band. And if you are reading this after the 2026 event, you can join us in 2027!

This event is especially meaningful to me because it helps support my daughter’s band. But it’s also the kind of local gathering I love sharing: great food, local vendors, live music, and a chance to support the people who make our communities thrive.

Here’s what you can look forward to:

  • ◆A chili cook-off: Sample competitors’ chili and vote for your favorite.
  • ◆Local shopping: Browse vendors offering handmade gifts, creative finds, and locally made goodies.
  • ◆Live music and entertainment: Enjoy performances and a lively downtown atmosphere.
  • ◆Community spirit: Support local organizations and the people who make Chickamauga such a great place to live.
  • ◆You may even see a local celebrity or two!

Want to Enter the Chili Cook-Off?

There may still be time to register as a chili competitor! But don't wait registration is closing soon! The listed entry fee is $25, with cash prizes including:

  • ◆$300: Judges’ Choice
  • ◆$300: People’s Choice
  • ◆$150: Hottest Chili
  • ◆$100: Best Presentation Booth

If you have a favorite chili recipe and a little competitive spirit, check the official website for current registration availability and details.

The street fair and live music are scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with chili tasting from noon to 2 p.m. Admission is free. Chili tasting tickets are $10 in advance online or $15 at the event, and include a sample from every competitor, a spoon and a voting ballot.

Visit Chilimauga.com for event details, registration, and ticket information.

More Local Festivals, Markets & Music Around Chattanooga

Chilimauga is just one example of the events that make living in the Chattanooga region so enjoyable. Throughout the year, you can find opportunities to shop small, enjoy local food, hear live music, and discover something new in the surrounding towns.

Here are a few places and events worth adding to your calendar.

LaFayette, Georgia: The Honeybee Festival

The annual Honeybee Festival in LaFayette, Georgia, celebrates the importance of honeybees while bringing the community together for live music, food, vendors, educational activities, and family fun.

It’s a wonderful example of a festival that combines a meaningful local theme with a full day of entertainment. If you enjoy browsing vendor booths, discovering handmade products, and supporting local businesses, this is one to keep on your radar.

Ringgold, Georgia: 1890 Days Jamboree

Held in historic downtown Ringgold over Memorial Day weekend, the 1890 Days Jamboree is a longtime North Georgia tradition. Expect food, arts and crafts vendors, live music on multiple stages, a parade, a classic car show, and a fireworks finale.

It’s free to attend and family-friendly, making it a great way to spend a spring weekend just south of Chattanooga.

Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee: The Soddy-Daisy Farmers Market

For a more relaxed weekend outing, the seasonal Soddy-Daisy Farmers Market at Poe’s Tavern Historical Park is a lovely way to shop local. Depending on the season and vendors, you can find fresh produce, baked treats, handmade goods, and art.

It’s a reminder that enjoying the area doesn’t always require a big festival. Sometimes it’s as simple as grabbing a coffee, browsing local products, and meeting the people behind the businesses. Check the current market schedule before visiting.

Dayton, Tennessee: The Tennessee Strawberry Festival

If you love seasonal food and hometown traditions, put the Tennessee Strawberry Festival in Dayton, Tennessee, on your list. This annual celebration features strawberry-themed activities, vendors, a parade, a baking contest, and family-friendly entertainment.

It’s the kind of event where you can spend the day exploring downtown, enjoying festival food, and taking part in a tradition that has brought people together for generations.

Ooltewah, Tennessee: Cambridge Square

Cambridge Square in Ooltewah is a walkable gathering place with restaurants, shops, and community events throughout the year. It’s a great spot to meet friends for dinner, explore local businesses, or enjoy an outdoor event when one is scheduled.

For people relocating to the Chattanooga area, places like Cambridge Square offer a glimpse into the everyday lifestyle that makes a community feel connected.

Chattanooga, Tennessee: The Market and Riverfront Music

The Chattanooga Market, held at the First Horizon Pavilion, brings together local artisans, food vendors, makers, and seasonal themed markets. It’s a great place to discover handmade gifts, try something delicious, and support small businesses.

For live music, Riverfront Nights at Ross’s Landing brings outdoor concerts to downtown Chattanooga along the Tennessee River during its summer season. With the riverfront setting and downtown skyline nearby, it’s a great example of how the city makes live entertainment part of the local lifestyle.

Something for Everyone

There’s no shortage of events to suit just about every personality! Whether you love bluegrass music, banana pudding, watermelon festivals, Halloween celebrations, Christmas markets, local legends and folklore, classic car cruise-ins, history, parades, beer and BBQ, blueberries, or beautiful blooms, you’re bound to find an event that speaks to your interests. Around Chattanooga and Northwest Georgia, there’s always something new to discover!

Live Music, Local Food & Unexpected Surprises

One of the things I love about this region is the variety of music you can experience. You can enjoy a local band at a community festival one weekend and discover a much bigger performance at another event.

The area has connections to country music artists such as Kane Brown and Lauren Alaina, and special performances can sometimes bring recognizable names to local stages. Recent FREE performances by artists like The Band Perry and Lauren Alaina are a reminder that you don’t always have to travel to a major city or buy an expensive concert ticket to enjoy a memorable musical experience.

Add in chili cook-offs, barbecue, food trucks, farmers markets, local bakeries, handmade jewelry, and gifts created by area artisans, and a simple Saturday outing can turn into a full day of exploring.

Finding a Home Is About Finding Your Community

As a Realtor serving Chattanooga and Northwest Georgia near the Tennessee border, I know choosing where to live involves more than comparing homes for sale. It’s also about finding a place where your everyday life feels right.

Maybe that means Saturday mornings at a farmers market, evenings listening to live music, annual festivals with your family, or getting to know the small businesses and people in your town.

These experiences are part of what makes a community feel like home.

If you’re buying a home, relocating to the Chattanooga area, or considering a move to Northwest Georgia, I’m always happy to help you explore not just the real estate market, but the places and lifestyle that come with it.

And if you’re looking for something fun to do on November 7, join me in downtown Chickamauga for Chilimauga. Shop local, enjoy the music, taste some chili, and support a great cause.

You might just discover your new favorite community tradition.
